Butterfly Body

Using color A and the larger hook:

- Rounds 5β10: Sc in each stitch around. (32 sts)
- Round 11: Sc in next 2 stitches, sc2tog; repeat around. (24 sts)
- Round 12: Sc in next stitch, sc2tog; repeat around. (16 sts) Change to color B in the last stitch.
Body β Section 2
With color B: 9. Round 13: Working in front loops only, sc in next stitch, 2 sc in next; repeat around. (24 sts) 10. Round 14: Sc in next 3 stitches, 2 sc in next; repeat. Body β Section 4
With color B: 19. Round 28: Working in front loops only, sc in next stitch, 2 sc in next; repeat. (21 sts) 20. Rounds 29β31: Sc in each stitch around. (21 sts) 21. Round 32: Sc in next stitch, sc2tog; repeat. (14 sts) 22. Round 33: Sc2tog around; change to color A in last stitch. (7 sts)
Body β Section 5 (End) 23. Round 34: With color A and working in front loops only, 2 sc in each stitch around. (14 sts) 24. Rounds 35β36: Sc in each stitch. (14 sts) 25. Round 37: Sc2tog around. (7 sts)
Fasten off and leave a long tail. Use the tail to close the opening securely.
Wings (Make 2)
Each wing consists of two panels crocheted together. Begin with Panel I.
Panel I β Lower Section With color C and larger hook:
- Chain 8.
- Round 1: Sc in 2nd chain from hook, sc in next 2 chains, hdc in next, (hdc, dc) in next, 2 dc in next, 4 dc in last; working on opposite side of chain: 2 dc, (dc, hdc), hdc, sc in next 3, sl st to first sc. Change to color A. (20 sts)
- Round 2: With A, do not turn. Sc in same stitch, sc next 3, hdc next 2, 2 hdc, 2 dc, dc, 2 dc in next 2, dc, 2 dc, 2 hdc, hdc in next 2, sc in last 4. Sl st to first sc. Change to color C. (26 sts)
- Round 3: With C, sc in same stitch, sc in next 8, 2 sc, hdc, 2 dc in each of next 4, hdc, 2 sc, sc last 9, sl st to join. (32 sts)
Panel I β Upper Section Continue with color C:
- Row 1: Do not turn. Sc in same stitch, sc next 4, hdc next 3, 2 hdc, 2 dc in each of next 3. Change to A. (16 sts)
- Row 2: With A, chain 2 (does not count as a stitch), turn. 2 dc, dc in next 5, hdc in next 5, sc in next 5. Change to C. (17 sts)
(Repeat process for Panel II and stitch together using sc or whipstitch.)
Antennae (Make 2)
Using steel hook and black embroidery floss:
- Chain 10.
- Fasten off. Knot both ends or shape into curls as desired.
Assembly
- Sew the wings to either side of the butterflyβs body using matching yarn.
- Attach antennae securely to the top of the head.
- Embroider eyes or facial details using black thread.
