About OpenCrochet

OpenCrochet is a free public website for crochet makers. We build browser-based calculators and publish step-by-step tutorials so you can convert stitch terms, check gauge, plan yarn, and follow patterns—without creating an account or paying a subscription.

What you will find here

  • Free tools — US ↔ UK terms, gauge, pattern grading, increase/decrease spacing, hook & yarn reference, and yarn yardage estimates.
  • Tutorials — patterns and how-tos with materials, abbreviations, and clear rounds, organized by category and difficulty.
  • Guides — short explainers that teach the craft concepts behind the tools (gauge, terminology, yarn planning).

How we curate content

Tutorials are edited for structure and clarity: materials lists, abbreviations, safety notes where relevant (for example safety eyes), and headings makers can scan while they work. We keep publishing and updating pages as the library grows, and we fix listing and sitemap freshness when new patterns go live.

Tools run in your browser. We do not require login for calculators or tutorials. If something is wrong or you want a new calculator, use the contact form—we read those messages.

Who is behind OpenCrochet

OpenCrochet is built and maintained by a small team that cares about practical crochet workflows: fewer spreadsheet detours, clearer pattern reading, and free access. We also share updates on Facebook and Pinterest.
